The student Frank Polte and the vocational school teacher Norbert Hoffmann conducted various training courses during their working stay in Sierra Leone in March 2011. One focus was the instruction of colleagues in the IT department of the “Milton Margai college of education and technology” in Freetown in the open source operating system Ubuntu. The teachers and students have worked with us on computers that “no longer work”. First, the dust or sand of the last years was blown away from the boards. This was done in the car workshop with a lot of compressed air. The structures of the boards became visible. In the IT lab, the computers were then subjected to a hardware test. Many PCs were once running again. On a sample network, we then showed that the Ubuntu operating system is very good at administering a computer network. The announced delivery of 20 PCs with the next container transport was now expected. At the end of our stay, we informed many students about how to use computer networks. The pictures show that many students were interested in the topic. Conclusion of the cooperation: It has again shown that there are many very interested people in Sierra Leone and the transfer of knowledge is a challenge for us.     Preparations in Berlin<\/h3>\n

    The team in Berlin assembles the PCs for computer training for   Milton Margai College\/Freetown. Everything is equipped with the Ubuntu operating system and tested for “heart and kidneys” in the network. Carefully packed, the whole goods go to Freetown in an overseas container in March 2012.
