With the realization that separate forms of energy should be used for each application, cooking with biogas in areas of the world, the various countries with sufficient biomass available, is a solution.

Self-produced biogas is also inexpensive.

The purchase of fossil fuels such as wood, charcoal, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) with rising market prices is eliminated.

Cooking with biogas is healthy.

The resulting smoke at the fireplace due to wood and charcoal is eliminated.

The number of respiratory diseases decreases significantly. The immune system of people, especially children, is no longer weakened.

There are thousands of examples of biogas plants in the world. Especially in Asia, these are widespread.

In Africa, in the country Sierra Leone, the knowledge of this form of energy is not, or very weakly available.

EDUREC with its educational program wants to help to gain knowledge about biomass and biogas.

In the program of theory and practice, we have decided to adopt and apply the concept of “b-energy” (https://be-nrg.com). It is easy to install, maintain and inexpensive.

In November 2021, the first biogas plant in Sierra Leone was built on the grounds of the Eastern Technical University (etu) togehther with “Light Salone Innovation (LSI)

25-30 young students got to know the basics of bioenergy in a 4-day course. First the theory and then the installation of a biogas plant from “b-energy”.

In the following days, the biogas bag was regularly filled with biomass. First with the “starter” cow dung, in the following time also with kitchen waste.

The biogas plant now serves the students of the “etu” as well as the participants of the EDUREC courses as a practical example of the use of biomass for the production of biogas.

If this form of energy generation is convincing, a business must also be considered.

These decentralised systems could be used in many villages.
