Curriculum Training
Training as an orthopaedic technician over 18 months: Integrated theory and practice in the craft business
Months 1-3: Basics of anatomy, physiology and materials science in the workshop
The trainees start their training directly in the workshop. Here, they are taught the basics of human anatomy and physiology right from the start, while learning practical manual skills. You will gain insights into materials science to develop an understanding of the materials used in orthopaedic technology.
Months 4-6: Orthopaedic technology in detail and technical basics
While they continue to work in the workshop, the trainees deepen their knowledge of various orthopaedic aids such as bandages, insoles, orthoses and prostheses. They use their craftsmanship skills to make and customize these tools. At the same time, they learn technical basics that help them to use tools and machines effectively.
Months 7-9: Patient Communication, Measurements and Adaptation on Site
In this phase, the trainees are actively involved in the workshop work. They talk to patients, measure measurements on site and learn how individual adjustments can be made. This direct interaction with patients allows trainees to develop their skills in a real-world setting.
Months 10-12: Production and adaptation of aids
The trainees put their knowledge from the previous months into practice by making and fitting insoles, bandages and simple orthoses. You will not only learn about the technical aspects, but also about the creative and individual solutions that are in demand in orthopaedic technology.
Months 13-15: Advanced techniques and practical experience
Trainees deepen their skills in the workshop by focusing on prosthesis manufacturing and fitting. They apply advanced techniques to develop individual solutions for complex requirements. Through continuous practice, they are able to handle both technically demanding work and patient care.
Months 16-18: Practical experience and final preparation
The trainees spend the last months of their training in an internship in an orthopaedic clinic or workshop. Here, they have the opportunity to apply their skills in a wider work environment and learn from experienced professionals. Meanwhile, they prepare for their final exam, which includes both theoretical and practical parts.
Graduation:
After successfully completing the 18-month training, graduates receive a certificate as orthopaedic technicians. Through the continuous integration of theory and practice throughout the training, graduates are well prepared to work in a craft business or an orthopaedic clinic. They can successfully handle both technically demanding tasks and the individual needs of patients.
